3rd Space Healing
The 3rd Space Support Program's Health and Wellness Collective is a group of professional healers committed to providing health care for people who are Lesbian, Gay, Two-Spirit, Trans, and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color, HIV+, low income, (im)migrant, and/or disabled.
3rd Space Health & Wellness Collective Mission
The Health & Wellness Collective of 3rd Space Support is a new initiative that strives to offer ongoing, accessible, and sliding-scale holistic health care services to Audre Lorde Project’s members, staff, and larger community. The Collective is comprised of professional healers who specialize in a wide array of modalities including, but not limited to: Acupuncture, Reiki, Meditation, Yoga, Health Screenings, and Registered Nurses. We believe that access to holistic services that support health and well-being is a human right, but is often out of reach for many people who identify as LGBTSTGNC people of color, HIV+, low income, (im)migrant, or those living with a disability. In this light, we aim to create a space that is sorely needed, and humbly offer our skills in service to our communities.

3rd Space Vision
The 3rd Space Support program will be based in the core values of healing and wellness, justice thinking, joy and imagination, collective culture and decision-making.
3rd Space Support is a place where we will support Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two-Spirit, Trans and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color communities facing the greatest barriers to survival; with a commitment to keeping immigrants, Trans and Gender Non- Conforming communities central to our work.
3rd Space Support is a place to give and receive sustainable support; where creation, invention and innovation will be practiced. We will draw from our resilience to support ourselves.
“We are powerful because we have survived, and that is what it is all about -- survival and growth." ~ Audre Lorde
3rd Space Support
After much visioning, input from our community, and work the Audre Lorde Project (ALP) is proud to announce the launch of its newest program, 3rd Space Support. The 3rd Space Support program seeks to work with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two-Spirit, Trans and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color (LGBTSTGNC POC) who struggle with issues around employment, education, health care and immigration status. It is a place to give and receive sustainable support; where creation, invention and innovation will be practiced. We will draw from our resilience to support ourselves.
Within this 3rd Space we hold on to the idea that LGBTSTGNC POC communities have always found ways to support each other and survive outside of systems. The 3rd Space Support program hopes to encourage and create space for these organic methods of community support and community building around employment, education, health care and immigration status to continue.
At the same time, ALP acknowledges that LGBTSTGNC POC community members also engage within systems to find support and get their needs met. Therefore, ALP will also engage with these systems to provide advocacy, resources and referrals for community members around the issues, employment, education, health care and immigration status.
As this first year of 3rd Space Support unfolds, we encourage you to get involved. We encourage you to attend and suggest 3rd Space programming. We encourage you to take care of yourselves and each other.

Why "3rd Space?"
3rd SPACE: "The idea, evolved by many Black revolutionary thinkers, is that we live externally in the first space: the space of capitalism. As activists, we often also live in the second space: the space of resisting and pushing back on oppression—the space where we do anti-racist work, anti-sexist work—the space where we oppose something. The third space is the space of creation, invention, innovation, and birth. It is the space where we dream a new world, with new words that are shaky on our tongues. It is an exhilarating and scary space. Some would liken it to standing on the edge of a great cliff. It is easier to not go to this space, but we believe it is the space that we need to survive." -excerpt from SONG Organizing School.)
